There are a couple of important points you need to consider when buying a gold or silver chain for a charm bracelet.
Firstly the length of the bracelet must be suitable for the size of your wrist. Normally people select a bracelet that is the measurement of their wrist plus an additional 2 or 3cm. A longer chain will fall further onto your hand when your arms hang at your sides, so choose a length where the chain sits onto your hand where it feels most comfortable.
The silver and gold charm bracelets shown here are 19cm long, if you require another length, you will find 'made to length' gold chains and silver chains on the SHOP menu.
If you don't already have a charm bracelet, you may find it easiest to use a necklace and use that to gauge the length of the chain that feels best. Form a loop around your arm and adjust the length until it feels right for you and then measure the length of chain of the loop you made.
Style of Chain
Some chains will not be suitable for charm bracelets, for example; a fine curb chain with no room inside the links to connect the jump ring to the charm.
For this reason we recommend selecting from gold and silver charm bracelet chains that have open style links; belcher, long curb, figaro and cable chains as shown above are some examples we find most commonly chosen by our customers.
The width of the charm bracelet chain is mostly a matter of personal preference. Finer chains place more focus on the charms you will attach, heavier chains make a bold statement and can be shaken to attract attention!
Our charm bracelet chains have a parrot clasp fitted, but you can select from our range of padlocks to dress up your bracelet. We have many style to choose from in plain and filigree designs, make sure the size you select will suit the width of the chain you have selected. The padlock should be neither too small nor too large for the bracelet.
Finished Charm Bracelets
If you are choosing a both charm bracelet chain and charms from our store in the same order, we can attach them for you. Please leave a note at the checkout describing the order and spacing you prefer. If you don't leave any instructions, we will attach your charms evenly around your bracelet for you. Please choose 'closed jump ring' as we have to pay our jeweller to solder the charms to your bracelet.
When adding more charms in the future, it is generally best to have a jeweller solder your jump rings closed to ensure your charms are securely fixed to the bracelet chain. You may wish to move charms from one bracelet to another, so miniature parrot clasps are a good choice for this option. If you wish to add one or two charms later, link locks allow you to do this at home, saving the cost of a jeweller soldering additional charms.
When you select your finding we will supply matching silver findings for silver charm bracelets and gold findings for gold charm bracelets (yellow, rose or white gold) Link-Locks are currently only available in sterling silver and yellow gold.
